TRAGEDY AT CIRCLEVILLE

A TRIBUTE TO BOB BECKMAN

As the airshow season drew to a close, the four A-6’s performed at the Circleville fly-in(9/29). It was Bob Beckman’s hometown. It was there that tragedy struck. Bob died during the aerial demonstration when his plane nosed into the ground at a low altitude and burned.

Bob was a member of the Historical Aircraft Squadron and made our hangar the base for his aircraft. Bob typified the air enthusiast who works long hours to restore historic planes and then loved to share them with the people.

We will always remember Bob for the great person he was. An enthusiastic aviator who’s enthusiasm also made him a successful businessman and father and husband. He was many things to many people. When he and Bruce organized the formation team they brought a new thrill to airshow audiences.

Their popularity grew quickly and were in demand. Bob loved the airshows. He took Photo of Bob Beckman annd Bruce Cook by Bob DeLay great pride in his plane and his buddies just as he did in family and business. They brought new excitement to Wings of Victory show.

We took great pride in Bob. Bob joined the long history of those who know the risks but love aviation. He carried the banner high for aviation and for all those whom he represented in the military and general aviation. We honor the memory of Bob Beckman. There is an empty space in our hangar and in our hearts. (editor)

NEW PROJECTS BEING CONSIDERED BY THE BOARD

The board is in the early stages of establishing priorities of new projectsl. They would especially like to hear from members of the squadron who have interest and or expertise to establish a team for the restoration of the helicopter. Also they would like to consider a team for the restoration of the Stuart light tank for static display. Another consideration may be the C-45.

A meeting is planned for October 13th at 1:00 pm. Plan on coming and voicing your interests in one of these projects. Your input is needed to establish budgets and work schedules as well as team leaders who have the ability to organize week by week efforts of the team.

At the completion of the projects, a plaque will be displayed for each project with the names of those who work with the required minimum hours on a project. Please stop by and let us know your ideas and interests.

UNIQUE MODEL BUILDING SKILLS NEEDED
