REMEMBER- The PX is our main source of income. We generate roughly a $1,000 per show through the airshow season. That’s why it is so important to have volunteers to staff the PX at various airshows. You can be a member of this team whenever you can spare a weekend for fun and travel. Without the PX we would not be able to survive as an organization. Our monthly expenses far exceed our income otherwise. Please sign up for one or more of the airshows. We’re organizing help for next season now. HAS is counting on you. We’ll show how you can sell the items and enjoy great airshows and the camaraderie of fellow members.

 FROM THE BOARD of DIRECTORS

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED TO COMBAT UNFOUNDED RUMORS AND DESTRUCTIVE ACTIONS

Vicious rumors are plaguing the Squadron. Most of these are totally unfounded and yet they hurt the organization. Members who do not attend the meetings are confused and tend to believe what they hear without contacting the board for clarification.

Outsiders do not have the opportunity to check with board members and may simply believe what they hear. This is most detrimental when it affects their participation in our air show.

To top this off, recently resigned and past president Steve Clapper claims ownership of the name “Wings of Victory” for our airshow. It is also rumored that he is planning another event and will use that name at another location.

This would confuse the public and they would probably assume that the show has simply moved to that location. This would definitely hurt our show.

At first we tried to ignore these rumors, but they are now hurting our organization. It is now necessary to speak out about these rumors.

We don’t know why this activity has been initiated by Steve. This all began after a new president was elected to the Historical Aircraft Squadron. The new president and board of directors voted last year to recognize Steve with an aware to give credit for his many years as president and founder of the group.

We had looked forward to having Steve’s participation for the further growth of the organization. Although we are going forward with our plans and anticipate continued growth, we need the memberships continued support to combat this type of destructive rumors by someone who is obviously unhappy with the group.

Our hope is that he will see his error and return to our group where we are happy to move forward with our future plans and growth.

 THIS MONTH IN HISTORY

November 7, 1945 Bell Aircraft Corporation announced successful test flights of a jet-propelled P-59 by remote control: television was used to read the instruments.

November 8, 1950 First jet-plane aerial combat in history, between USAF F-80 and a MIG-15, took place in Korea. USAF Lt. Russell J. Brown shot down the MIG.

November 12, 1909 Wanamaker’s Department Store, Philadelphia, advertised ‘Flying Machines for Sale.” The advertisement was in connection with exhibit of “The Bleriot Plane,” (an exact duplicate of the one that flew the Channel), which offered it for sale at $5,000.

November 2001 The Historical Aircraft Squadron selected its first “Member of the Year” as Branson Rutherford.

LETS WIN THE PEACE...It is more important than ever to support our troops by flying the flag. Let the world know that we are united !! Our troops are risking their lives every day for us. Pray for them.
