WE’VE GOT A WINNER !!
Last month’s mystery plane

Jerry McDaniel wins the Mystery Plane Contest-The plane was a Lockheed SR-60 Constitution. Only two were built, for the U.S. Navy. The one pictured was here for Navy recruiting celebration. The first plane flew in late 1947. The last one flew in 1951. Later they were sold and cut up for scrap. In 1947 they were considered the largest plane flying after the B-36. Congratulations to Jerry. I understand you were only 9 years old at the time but you got on board and it must have made a big impression. -Si DeBolt

This month’s
Mystery Plane...

This months mystery plane flew into Columbus on 29 September, 1946. It had completed a record long distance flight that would stand for the next 16 years. Name the aircraft type, manufacturer and it nose art name, where if flew from. Also the Dispatch did a search for the plane a couple years ago. Do you know what happened to it? Call Bob DeLay at 514-846- 2876 if you know the answers.

B-17 flyby at 2000 Wings of Victory Photo- John Knouff

As the airshow draws near many things are falling into place thanks to the airshow committee and key volunteers. Speaking of volunteers, we still need to get more people assigned to tasks prior to and during the airshow. Call president Steve Clapper to get your name on the volunteer list.

As you may have noticed publicity for the event is beginning to appear. Watch for your July issue of Country Living magazine to catch the full color story about the A-26 and a notice of the Wings of Victory airshow.

Also any day now the local cable TV broadcast of an interview by Stan Robinson of Enterface Video with Public Affairs Officer Bob DeLay discussing the airshow.

PR Specialist Emily Lorenzi is spearheading efforts to make contacts for Bob to follow up on.

Lancaster Gazette published a story about the squadron and Wings of Victory Airshow. They also covered the Pearl Harbor theme Lancaster High School prom at our hangar. The theme for the Prom was Pearl Harbor.

Channel 53 has been selected as Video Media sponsor for the airshow and will be doing one and possibly two half hour specials about the squadron and the airshow a couple weeks before the airshow.

Lancaster Police officer Dan Patten has volunteered to provide volunteer night security officers during the air show. The Air Show meetings are held the last Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Wings of Victory airshow will be the August 16.17, 18 The 16th is the fly in date.

The following aircraft are scheduled to appear: P-51 Mustang, F4U Corsair, TBM Avenger, YAK 9, T-6, SNJ, BT-13, BT-15, B-25, L-39, Russian A-16, DeHaviland C Venom, PT-17 Stearmans, L-5 Stinson, and an A-26 Invader like the one the squadron is restoring.

Also there will be an encampment of the Airman’s Preservation Society which is a WWII Army Air Corps group. Two of the Blacksheep Squadron pilots will also be on hand to meet the public.

Diane has list of 1999 airplane sponsors for contact this year. Jerry is authorized to okay sponsor display area. Standing Stone Bank has offered the use of their copier and fax machine for airshow activities. The airshow account is with Standing Stone.

Tickets will be sold in advance by the squadron at locations yet to be announced. Tickets are: $10 per adult, $5 for children 6 thru 12 years. 5years. and under are free.

Everything is moving along and indications are that this will be another great show.

Many people have expressed delight in the fact that the show is back after a one year absence. That was made necessary due to the building of the hanger and the efforts to bring that to a successful conclusion.

Call Steve and join the other volunteers.

Activities and updates of latest information. Be sure to contact the editor to inform him of latest activities and instructions for others.

AIRPLANE JACKS:
Wayne Swisher
Bruce Brudzinski
Don Bell
The airplane jacks are needed for the testing of the landing gear retraction on the A-26. This is probably the most important project to getting the A-26 back in the air. There are 2 large, 2 medium and 1 small jack. They need to be cleaned, rebuilt if necessary and tested. Branson is working on loaners if the jacks can’t be rebuilt in time.

GNAT:
Bob DeLay has been named team leader by the Board. Earl Watkins is doing research.
Rob George
Earl Watkins
Bob DeLay
Don Bell
The GNAT needs to have the body work finished and prepped for painting. This includes removal of previous filler and roughing the surfaces with very coarse sandpaper so that filler will adhere. Block sanding of the new filler and primer paint. Tires are being foam inflated, struts reinforced and decals or markings will be added for a finished product. The GNAT will be used as a static display, taken in parades and as a prop for selling pictures of people sitting in it during our airshow. Protective canopy cover needed to protect interior.

TUGS:
Wayne Swisher
Si Debolt
Bruce Cook
Bruce Brudzinski
Michael Grant
The tugs, Little John and Fat Boy, need some tender loving care on a regular basis. Little John has a dragging starter and Fat Boy needs a good once over.

LANDSCAPING:

NEEDED- HANGAR BOSS
We want someone to check fire extinguishers and serve as hangar boss for hangar maintenance. This would be the point man for making sure everything is in order and reporting details to the board. Organizational skills necessary.

PULLING TOGETHER WE CAN ALL MAKE H.A.S. SOMETHING WE CAN BE PROUD OF.

Turn in all volunteer hours to Dick Debevoise TODAY. Clipboard in office.
