The Invader - July 2003

An all-volunteer, non-profit organization to the restoration, display and operation of former military aircraft.

ITS TIME TO SIGN UP FOR VOLUNTEERS AT THE WINGS OF VICTORY AIR SHOW AUGUST 16 AND 17

WINGS OF VICTORY 2003
Contact one of the board members (see their phone numbers on page 2) to sign up for volunteer work at and before the Wings of Victory air show. We’ll need a lot of help so please contact us soon.

One of the rare and seldom seen aircraft is the British Spitfire. The Spitfire will be one of our featured air planes along with a British RAF reenactment group.

Some of the other planes which will be attending are a Super Corsair, PBY, NA50, T-6, BT-13, Yak, Mustang, T-50 Bamboo Bomber, Stearman,YAK-52, L-39,O-2 Cessna, L-38 from OU, and many more. Still in negotiation are TBM, C-47, C-130, B-25 and others.

The T-33 is the two seat tandem trainer version of the F-80. It will be putting on a full smoke show.

Scott Richardson will bring his group of 101st Airboune reenactment group of paratroopers decked out in their D-day invasion jump gear. This is a great group that really gets you into the times. They even do the face camouflage paint. Don’t Miss this one.

Squadron member Fred Kaiser will be there signing his new book for all who purchase one. There will be limited copies at the show, but he will take orders if he runs out of copies.

Looks like another great show is in the making. Make plans to be a part of this annual event. Much work is to be done on both Wednesday and Thursday prior to the planes arrivals on Friday.

Gates open at 9:00 a.m. So volunteers should be here for assigned tasks starting at 7:30. Assignments are made and coordinated in advance for most duties. Gates close at 5:00. Prices are the same as last year.

 PRESIDENT'S CORNER
PRESIDENTS CORNER
Summer is here and so is air show season. We went to Blue Ash Ohio for their show the first weekend in June. Saturday was good and Sunday was until about 2:30 when the skies opened up. Wish to thank Brian and Brenda Halk for helping us tear down the PX. It was one of the worst we have seen because of the rain and wind. Unfortunately it was their first time.

This weekend went a lot better; we were at the MAPS air show at Akron-Fulton airport. We had good weather both days. Wish to thank Gerry and Diane McDaniel, Jim Stevenson and Speedy for helping out this weekend Not often you get to see a P40 do a heritage flight with an A10 plus see a P38, Hellcat, B17, Corsair and many others. The Planes of Fame Museum aircraft they are touring with this year were there.

Air show meetings will probably become more frequent the closer we get to August. If you are interested in helping out contact one of the Board members or myself. Several aircraft have confirmed they are coming, including the Spitfire, Super Corsair, PBY, NA50, T-6, BT-13, Yak, Mustang, T-50 Bamboo Bomber, Stearman and many more.

The C45 restoration project is moving slowly right now for lack of people to help. We are working on getting wheels on it so it can be moved around. We have a contact to get Beech 18 parts if we need them. If anyone is interested in helping with it get a hold of a board member or myself.

Our meetings are still the same, the second Tuesday of the month and the fourth Wednesday. Please try to attend we need your help.

Jim Ridgway, President
